Obituary

William A. Yager, Sr, 79 of Millbrook, passed away on January 7, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born in White Plains, NY on June 1, 1941, he was the son of the late John Yager and Marion Walters Murphy.
William graduated from Mahopac High School, Class of 1959. He served his country with the US Army from 1961-1964 with the Army's Security Agency. On June 7, 1964 at Lake Mahopac Methodist Church, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet E. Yager. Mrs. Yager survives at home.

In 1988, he received his Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Dutchess Community College. Mr. Yager enjoyed a 26-year career with IBM in East Fishkill retiring in 2004, as a Senior Systems Engineer.
William was a 57- year member of American Legion Post #1302 and a member of the Porsche Club of America. On May 20, 2017, he participated in the Hudson Valley Honor Flight Mission #16 and escorted a WW-II/Korean War Veteran to Washington, DC and found it to be one of the most rewarding experiences he had ever had.

William was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.  He was very proud of his children and his grandchildren and would often light up when talking about them.  He could be seen on the sidelines cheering on his granddaughter playing collegiate soccer and his grandson's RIT Formula Racing Team.  As an Engineer, William could fix anything.  He even restored a 1966 Porsche 912 from a box of parts.  Mr. Yager's areas of interest included bowling, golfing, boating, fishing and jet skiing on Great Sacandaga Lake with his family, gardening, hunting, restoring classic cars, and following the Marist College Girls Basketball Team. He was a Webelos Leader and Scoutmaster for Troop 32 in Clinton Corners from 1973-1984.  Many of his scouts can attest to the impact that he made on their lives.

Surviving is his wife Janet, of Millbrook; his son William A. Yager, Jr. and his wife Darlene of Wassaic, NY; his daughter Sarah E. Cross and husband Jeff of LaGrangeville, NY; his grandchildren, Benjamin Yager of Wassaic, NY and Ashley Cross of LaGrangeville, NY; his brother James R. Yager and his wife Marge of Kinderhook, NY; his sister-in-law Phyllis Chapman and her husband Richard of Syracuse, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
