Obituary

William G. Coffey, 74, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3 rd 2019 at his home. Born in Jersey City, NJ on October 25 th , 1944 to William and Agnes Coffey (predeceased) he was raised in Jersey City, NJ until 1947 when he moved to Millbrook, NY. He was predeceased by his siblings James Moore, Joan Shanks, Margaret Didona and Rosemary Tree.

He married Joyce A. Rexhouse on July 21 st , 1962; this year would have been their 58 th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Coffey survives at home.

William was a mechanic for over 45 years; he owned his own business, G & G Auto in Poughkeepsie and throughout his retirement continued to work on cars at his home. He loved his family and everyone he met. Lovingly known as "Uncle Gary","Big Guy" and "The Old Man" to so many people. He was extremely kind and generous; he would give anyone the shirt off of his back. He was also incredibly loving and happy; he loved talking and meeting people. He charmed everyone he met; you would often catch him stopping to show anyone who would look, a photo of his kids and grandchildren who he was so proud of. He loved his dogs Darla, Dixie and Bella; you would often find him sitting in his chair with all three of them.

William is survived by three of his children, Donna Coffey and her husband Mike Evans of Poughkeepsie, Lisa Pfitscher and her husband Jerry Pfitscher of Hyde Park and Eddie Hill and his wife Dee Hill of Hyde Park. He was predeceased by his son William "Little Gary" Coffey in 1991. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren; Lyndsey Hill, Nicole Hill, Anthony Coffey, Ashleigh Sparacino, Matthew Hill, Amanda Pfitscher, Alyssa Pfitscher , Michael Evans, Alexandra Pfitscher and five great-grandchildren; Jake Mkhail, Owen Hill, Joseph Hill, McKennah Hill and Jaxon Sparacino all of Poughkeepsie. He is also survived by his brother John Coffey, his sister Patricia VanTassel and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no viewing at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held on Monday July 8 th , 2019 at 10am St. Peters Cemetery, 171 Salt Point Turnpike in Poughkeepsie with reception to follow at the home of Lyndsey Hill, 57 Van Wyck Drive Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 and all are welcome to attend.
