William G. Castagnoli, (Cas), 86, died on November 26, 2015 at his family home in Pleasant Valley, New York after a long illness. Cherished husband of Carole, proud father of Christopher, Andre and Francesca, beloved father-in-law to Sherrie and David, and loving grandfather of Conrad and Dashiell, Cas figured prominently in the healthcare industry in a career that spanned 50 years. In 1972, Cas was one of the founders of Medicus, a medical advertising agency he started with 3 sizable accounts—Merrell Dow, Schering¬ Plough, and Procter & Gamble. Over the next 20 years, Castagnoli helped build Medicus into one of the leading healthcare ad agencies in the world.
After retiring as agency president and vice chairman (US/Canada) Cas became a contributor to Medical Marketing & Media Magazine. He went on to help develop the Doctors Choice Awards and co-found the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame, which he was then inducted in 2007. Cas also co-authored the book, "Medicine Ave" a comprehensive review of medical advertising. Bill Mulligan, a colleague who worked with Cas at Medicus remembers him, "Think about his decades in the industry, of the probably hundreds or thousands of people he had a positive impact on. He would help on the creative side and on the account side. He was always there for you. I think, he was a remarkable man and made an impact on a lot of lives." Cas was an avid history buff always happy to discuss the politics of 1915 as easily as 2015. He was a masterful gardener known for his ever-changing landscapes. Cas will be greatly missed for his love of word play, party games and wonderful story-telling.
