Obituary

Walter W. Ficker, 88, died Friday, May 20, 2016.

Born in Brooklyn on September 28,1927,

he was the son of Gustav and Meta Ficker. In high school he worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corp.

On June 11, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, he married Ruth Nelsen.Ruth and Walter moved to Fishkill and lived there for over 60 years.

Walter worked at IBM for 35 years as a Mechanical Engineer until his retirement

in 1987. He had a life long love of aviation.During the 1950's, he worked with Cole Palen restoring several WWI airplanes for a Hollywood movie and the future "Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome". Several of these airplanes are now in National museums.

Walter and Ruth loved to travel and spendtime with their family.

Walter is predeceased by Ruth who died in April 2009; their children, Gary Ficker and his wife Dianna of Hyde Park; Robert Ficker and his wife Lorna of Poughkeepsie; Ann Bettina and her husband, Richard of Milford, MA. He

was the proud grandfather of Jamie and Billy Ficker; Leanne Ficker, Laura Uldrikis, and Andrew, Amy and Alex Bettina. He was the proud great-grandfather to Kyle Ficker.

A private family service will be held Tuesday, May 24, at Auchmoody Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
