Victor Tesan

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Victor Tesan entered peacefully into eternal rest on October 27, 2016, at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill.  He was 101.

Victor was born on January 26, 1915, in San Giorgio della Richenvelda, Pordenone, Italy, to Enrico and Inez (Odorico) Tesan.  He often spoke of how much he enjoyed growing up in the Italian countryside and recounted some of his antics on the farm as a young boy.  After the deaths of his two brothers to the Spanish Influenza, his father brought him to America in 1930 to live with his aunt and cousins (Odorico) in New York.  He grew to adulthood in the Bronx, where he met the love of his life, Celeste Tibaldi.  Victor and Celeste were married on November 25, 1943, in The Church of St. Lucy.

During World War II, Victor proudly served in the US Army as a Staff Sargent in General Patton's 3rd Army, 7th Armored Division.  He participated in the liberation of Chartres and the Battle of the Ardennes (The Battle of the Bulge).  On Veteran's Day, 2015, at 100 years old, with his proud family in attendance, Victor received his service medals from the war at a ceremony at the Roosevelt Library in Hyde Park, NY.

After the war, Victor pursued his career as a waiter and maitre'd in New York City, working at many renowned establishments, including the Waldorf Astoria, the Commodore Hotel, Chez Vito, and t0he Cattleman.  He also served at the executive dining room at Lehman Brothers on Wall Street until his retirement.

Victor loved having fun.  He enjoyed going out dancing with his wife and their friends, fishing under the Whitestone Bridge, and family vacations at the Italian resorts in the Catskills.  Upon retirement, Victor and Celeste moved to Wappingers Falls to be close to their children and grandchildren.  Even in retirement Victor's love of good food was demonstrated by his avid cooking skills and by the beautiful gardens he kept.  He also enjoyed working with his hands and spent many an hour in his workshop fixing things.

In addition to his wife, Victor is survived by his sister, Angelina Tramontin in Italy, his son, Alfred Tesan and his wife, Debbie, his daughter, Lorraine Margiotta and her husband, Victor, his grandchildren: Victor Margiotta Jr. and his wife, Jaime, Gina Margiotta, Anthony Tesan, and Christina Tesan, and his nieces and nephews both in the US and Italy.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Wingate at Dutchess for the care, compassion and friendship shown to our father.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Homes,  Inc., 1028 Main St., Fishkill, NY 12524. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 31, 2016 from St. Mary's Church in Fishkill at 10 am. Burial will follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.
