Valere Voorhees, a life-long Poughkeepsie resident born September 3, 1927 died peacefully at her home on December 6.  Valere is the daughter of the late Mrs. Harriette Pulvoer Voorhees and Dr. Earle W. Voorhees.

Valere attended and was a graduate of, the Emma Willard School, Pine Manor College and Bender Laboratory of the Albany College of Pharmacy. Valere worked with her father in his Medical practice in Poughkeepsie for many years.  She had many interests ranging from horseback riding, playing cards, to sewing and traveling.

In addition to her Board service with the Poughkeepsie Junior League, Vassar Hospital Association, Dutchess County Horticultural Society, Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery and Profits Unlimited, Valere was also a former member of the Dutchess Golf and Country Club and the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club.

Valere married Lawrence A. Heaton on June 27, 1999; he predeceased her in September 2007.  She is survived by his four children and their families.

A private graveside committal service will be held at the Voorhees family plot in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Vassar Brothers Medical Center or Dutchess County SPCA. For condolences, please visit www.hudsonvalleyfuneralhomes.com
