Tom Hirst, age 74 of Salt Point, NY, passed away on December 12, 2024, after a valiant struggle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Tom was born in Philadelphia, PA and was the son of the late John and Carolyn Hirst. He was the beloved husband of 32 years to Wendy, who survives at home. Tom's mother-in-law, Marge Merritt, also survives in Cold Spring. Tom was the proud father of Jason Hirst (Amy), Allison Dziemaszkiewicz, Ashley Hinojosa (Raudel), and devoted stepfather to Emily Lallouz (Jonathan) and Anne Murnane (Billy). Tom had the opportunity to be a caring grandfather to Peter, James, Kris, Timothy, Tom, Lola, Dahlia, and Cruz. Tom is also survived by his siblings: Sue Markiewicz (late Tom), Mary Torggler (George), Carol Hirst, Margie Nairn (John), Anne Muccino, and Bob Hirst (Linda). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he loved very much. Tom is preceded in death by his older brother, John Hirst.
A man of faith, character, and integrity, Tom was an Army veteran, mechanical engineer, and leader. Tom had distinguished professional roles at companies such as IBM, Texaco, and Trammell Crow. He completed his career as the Director of Facilities at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, where he was responsible for the design and construction of multiple buildings. Tom enjoyed outdoor hobbies, notably as an avid golfer at Red Hook Country Club and rower with the Hudson River Rowing Association (HRRA). Tom was an integral member in the construction of HRRA's new Boathouse in 2006.

Friends and family are welcome for calling hours at 3270 Franklin Avenue, Millbrook, New York 12545 on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00pm ET. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 15 North Ave, Millbrook, NY 12545 on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 10:00am ET. Interment will be immediately following in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to one of Tom's favorite causes, listed below:
