Thomas J. Kirchhoff found peace on Wednesday September 17th 2025 at 89 years old. Tom was born on January 26th 1936 in Great Neck Long Island to George and Margaret Kirchhoff. Tom was predeceased by his brother George (Jo Anne) Kirchhoff as well as his partner of 30 plus years Jeanne Horvath and his Great Granddaughter Margaret Mae Kirchhoff. Tom is survived by the mother of his children Elizabeth Kirchhoff and his three Children Mary (Jim), Susan (Alain), and Joseph (Andrea), his 6 Grandchildren Benjamin (Lauren), Brian, Kyle (Kelly), Troy (Jessica), Samantha (Paul) and Layla and his 4 Great Grandchildren Elle, Emma, William, and Anna.
Tom was 13 years of age when his family moved to Clinton Corners NY in the Hudson Valley.  He was a graduate of Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School and attended Rider College in New Jersey where he obtained an associates degree. Upon graduation he began work as a linesman with the New York Telephone Company. A few years later Tom decided to join the family insurance brokerage business which sparked his desire to create a real estate brokerage and a residential construction company.
Tom got his start in construction in the 60s by building single family homes in Pleasant Valley NY and soon after began developing subdivisions, many of which are recognizable to those who live in the area today. A few worth mentioning are Fox Run, and Hibernia Heights in Salt Point NY, as well as several others throughout Dutchess County. He built an apartment complex called Village Park in Pleasant Valley, which at that time was a difficult and not overly common endeavor but he took the risk and invested in the area he called home. Tom greatly contributed to the development of Pleasant Valley and its surrounding areas. His community involvement included being a member of the Pleasant Valley Lions Club the Chamber of Commerce and he was a former Councilman, and Deputy Supervisor of Pleasant Valley.
Tom spent 40 seasons in his beloved Vero Beach, Florida when he was not in the Hudson Valley. He had a love for horses, horse racing, football, golf, and baseball, particularly the Yankees- although sometimes the way he spoke about them made it difficult to tell if he was actually a fan! Tom was viciously funny in a dry and sarcastic way and if you were the subject of his humor it was hard to decide whether to laugh or cry.. His family always chose to laugh. He lived his life the way he wanted to and rarely deviated from that path. Tom was a straight shooter and more times than not you knew exactly what was on his mind.  He wasn't one to curb speaking his opinion regardless of the repercussions of doing so. Though some might see these things as short comings, his family and friends knew these were the things that made the man so loveable and fun to be around!  There was rarely a dull moment with him as he had a knee slapping comment for just about every situation you put him in.

When Tom took the time to show just how kindhearted, loving, and deeply caring he was for his family and friends you would most certainly recognize just how amazing a human being he was. He was a wonderful friend to many and a beloved Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Tom was extremely proud of his family and worked hard in life to ensure they would all have good lives. He was always present for family events and celebrations right up to his final days.  Big T will be greatly missed by all those that knew him.
Tom spent his last days at Hudson Valley Hospice House in Hyde Park, NY. He was surrounded by those he loved, and those who loved him deeply. The Family would like to thank his aides Verna, Norma, Big Mike and several others for their care and compassion over the last months. The staff at Hudson Valley Hospice House should be commended for making his final days comfortable.
