Thomas R. Gates, 75 of Pleasant Valley, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Born in Somers, NY on October 23, 1941, he was the the son of the late W. Howard Gates and Mildred Rogers Gates.

On November 25, 1961 at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie, Tom married Virginia Krug. Mrs. Gates resides at home. Tom owned and operated Tom Gates Auto Parts Store in Poughkeepsie for many years.

In addition to his wife Virginia, he is survived by his children; Bob Gates and his wife Jeanna of Arizona, Mark Gates and his wife Sue of Florida, Michele Gates of Pleasant Valley and Leah Hapeman of Pleasant Valley; his grandchildren, Joseph and his wife Lidia, Kyle, Evan and Amanda; his brothers, Gerald Gates and Lorraine Votypka and Richard Gates and his wife Joanne as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Pat Gates.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 2 at 11 am from St. Paul's Church, 161 Mansion St., Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made in Tom's memory to St. Paul's Church, 161 Mansion. st., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or Hospice, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie,NY 12601.
