Saverio ("Sam") Papa passed away on November 4, 2024, surrounded by family. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Sam was known for his gift with words, which he shared widely over four decades as a cub reporter and news editor at the New York Daily News. His favorite role was as editor of the "Pet's Page," where he shared his love for animals with readers. Sam's love for family and friends was expressed through writing extraordinary poems celebrating their major life events and milestones. Sam treasured horses, cards, the NY Rangers, old movies, and cigars. He was always up for a spirited debate. His life exemplified love, compassion, and true dedication to his family. When asked if he needed anything, Sam always responded, "Just your love." A dedicated Marine, he found great joy in volunteering for Toys for Tots. No stranger to heartache, he lost his first wife, Camille, and oldest son, Thomas. Sam is survived by his wife Joy, son Vincent, stepchildren Louis, Frank, and Lauren; and his adoring 6 grandkids.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8 from 3-7 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave, Millbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, November 9 at 10 am from St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Rd, Hopewell Junction, NY
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Marine Corp Foundation or Toys for Tots in Sam's memory would be fitting.
