Sandra G. Wiedeman passed away peacefully September 8th at age 88. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and teacher. Born to Matilda G. and Perry E. Ferris, on May 12, 1938, she grew up on the family dairy farm in Poughquag. She is survived by her three sons, Frank and Peggy Wiedeman of Clintondale, Richard Wiedeman of Poughkeepsie, Robert and Barbara Wiedeman of LaGrange, and brother Robert and Pamela Ferris of Poughquag. She leaves behind 5 loving grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Poughquag, and at a young age, informed her mother that she knew she wanted to become a teacher. She was a teacher for 35 ½ years for Arlington Central Schools; most of which was spent teaching kindergarten at Traver Road Elementary School in Pleasant Valley, NY. She was a dedicated teacher who helped many young minds flourish. She was passionate about teaching reading and was an active member of the Dutchess County Reading Council serving Brookhaven and Grace Smith House. She was the first director of the Dorothy E. Albertson Foundation for Little People, a summer program for those who needed a little extra help. As a staunch Catholic who loved her faith, she also taught CCD (Sunday School). Sandra had a big heart, was quick to help, and generous to anyone in need. She touched the lives of many children and her inspiration led several family members to become teachers. Sandra will be sorely missed. Visitation will held on Sunday, September 13 from 4-7 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, September 15 at 9:30 am from St. Martin de Porres, 118 Cedar Valley Rd., Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow at Beekman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Smith House (www.gracesmithhouse.org), Eternal Word Television Network (www.ewtnmission.com/donation/honor-memory/), and LaGrange Professional Firefighters (845-452-4998).
