Sandra G.
House
Jul 21, 1938 — Apr 25, 2023
Sandra (Sandy) G. House, 84, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023, at Woodland Pond at New Paltz. Sandra lived in Pleasant Valley for 58 years prior moving to Woodland Pond in 2018. Sandra began dating Harold F. House Jr. at the age of 15 and wed 7 years later on November 20, 1960. They celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage together. Harold passed away 4 months ago, and Sandra was truly broken-hearted. Sandra was born on July 21, 1938, in Poughkeepsie, NY, to the late Clifford McKenzie and Dorothy (Peg) Pearce McKenzie. Sandra attended Poughkeepsie High School and graduated in 1956. She then attended Brockport State Teachers College and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Physical Education. She received her master's degree from the State University of New Paltz in Special Education thereafter. Sandra went on to teach Physical Education at Millbrook, Highland, and Arlington Central School Districts for 33 years, retiring in 1994. She also coached Varsity Gymnastics and Varsity Tennis at Arlington High School for many years. Sandra loved to play tennis and later became a United States Tennis Official and enjoyed traveling around to officiate many tennis tournaments. In addition to being a devoted wife, she was a proud mother of her two children and "Nana" of her eight grandchildren. She took immense joy in attending activities and sporting events that her grandchildren participated in, here and in Arizona. Her family was the light of her life, and she loved spending time with them. After moving to Woodland Pond in 2018, Sandra enjoyed meeting many new people and making some very good friends. She loved her Friday afternoon Pinochle games and having dinner with other residents. She was extremely happy in this supportive community. Sandra is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Tracy House of Chandler, Arizona; daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Jeffrey Battistoni of Pleasant Valley, NY.; her grandchildren Sean House, Matthew House, Megan House and Jacob House of Chandler, Arizona; Nicholas Battistoni and fiancé Jessica Duffy of Coral Gables, Florida; Brady Battistoni and fiancé Elizabeth LaTuso of Red Hook, NY; Dara Battistoni of Greenville, North Carolina; and Tristan Battistoni of Pleasant Valley, NY. The family would like to thank the Woodland Pond skilled nursing staff for all their wonderful care these past few months. A special thank you to Sandra Freeborn whose care, love and support was unsurpassed. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 30, from 3 - 6 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. A Funeral and Holy Eucharist will be offered on Monday, May 1, at 10 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 808 Traver Road, Pleasant Valley. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
