Ruth Ellen
Goth
Nov 7, 1921 — Mar 27, 2022
Nashville
Ruth Ellen Williams Goth passed away on Sunday morning March 27, 2022 in Nashville, TN in the company of her beloved Nashville family. Ruth was born on November 7, 1921 in Weymouth, MA, to John Sherman Williams and Ruth Howe Alden Williams, both Mayflower descendants. Ruth was the youngest of 10 children; John, Alice, Eugene, Maude, Richard, Olive, Lucie, Daniel, and Dorothy preceded Ruth. When she was three, her family moved to New Rochelle, NY. She graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1940 and then attended Vassar Brothers Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1943. On September 12, 1943, she married Joseph William Goth at the Union Baptist Church in New Rochelle, NY.
Ruth and Joe resided in the town of Poughkeepsie, NY and raised their children (Joseph, Michael, George, Gary, Nancy, and John) there, spending sixty years on Rochdale Road. Ruth always brought joy, love, and optimism to 161 Rochdale Road. In 2014 she moved to Nashville to live with her daughter and granddaughter's family, providing a helping hand until heart illness struck this month.
Ruth was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her positive attitude and sunny disposition were unparalleled. Her biggest fault was trying to please others. She loved gardening, playing bridge, doing jigsaw puzzles and all her 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She remained alert and active throughout. At her 100
th
birthday party at the Beekman Arms last November, many commented on her spryness.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Zverev (Mikchail) with whom she resided in Nashville, and her four sons, Joseph Jr. (Barbara) in Mount Pleasant, WI, Michael (Patricia) in Medfield, MA, George (Susan) in Round Top, NY, and Gary (Mary Jo) in Pleasant Valley, NY. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Adrienne Spraggins (Jeffrey) and their daughters Yvette and Simone in Nashville; Eric Goth (Dana) and children Audrey, Charlotte and Everett in Verona, WI; Diana Goth in Mount Pleasant, WI;, Stephen Goth (Catherine) and their daughters Leah and Eliza in Naperville, IL; David Goth in Millsboro, DE ; Katherine Goth (Joshua Lensbouer) and their daughters Jessica and Danika in Mohrsville, PA; Nikki Goth Itoi (Paul) and their sons Emmett and Joshua in Park City, UT; Jennifer Nisi (John) and their children Alden, Charlotte and Victoria in Poughkeepsie, NY; Kathryn LaTendresse (Phillip) and their children Evelyn and Thomas in Chassell, MI; Thomas Goth (Dominique) in Salt Lake City, UT; Johanna Finegan (Timothy) and their daughters Rachel and Hannah in Waynesville, OH; and Karen Goth Cabarrus (Brian) and their daughters Aubree and Charlotte in Greenville, NC. Ruth is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son John in 1990, her husband Joseph in 2006, her siblings and all her brothers and sisters-in-law. For the Goth-Williams clan she is the last member of the greatest generation.
