Robert A. Skidmore of Mabbettsville passed away on October 12, 2022. Bob was born on March 21, 1934 the son of Tryntje Selderbeck Skidmore and Akin Skidmore. He is survived by his sister Nell Skidmore Carreau. Bob spent his early years on the Migdale estate, having fond memories of sleighing on the long drive and interactions with Rufous the Red Stag.When he was ten the family moved into the hamlet of Mabbettsville. Bob always loved baseball and started his athletic career playing for the Millbrook High School team. He spent hours roaming the nearby hills with his close friend Gene Field. He graduated in 1951 and attended Westchester County Community College, receiving an Associates degree in mechanical engineering.
Bob served his country in the US Army for two years.
He was employed by IBM after leaving the service, working in Poughkeepsie and Kingston for over thirty years.
In 1958 he married the late Jane Drury Skidmore and two children were born to them. His son Jay and daughter Leigh survive him.
Bob's true love was farming. In addition to his IBM employment he acquired property and raised angus cattle for many years. Eventually the business came to specialize in boarding retired horses. He retired from active farming in 2015.
Bob married the late Evelyn "Pinky" Germond Skidmore in 1984. He became a parent to four step-children Mark Germond, Trudy Minnick, Jamie Basiliere and Jennifer Briggs who survive him.
Participation in twi-night league baseball continued until 1970. His prowess as a pitcher earned election to the Duchess County Baseball Hall of Fame.
After retiring from IBM in 1986 Bob's need for speed led him to a new pursuit, racing motorcycles on ice. At an age where most racers were retiring, Bob was just starting. He continued racing until he was eighty and loved every minute he got to spend on the ice.
In 1991 Bob married Janet Losee Skidmore who survives him.
There will be no public services. Burial will be in the family cemetery at their convenience.
