Robert Schmitt, 79, of Fishkill, passed away on June 19, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Robert was born to parents Charles and Alice, on February 7, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York and is the second of three sons (Charles and Kenneth). Robert graduated from Midwood High School and went on to a tour of duty in the United States Navy. After the Navy, Robert found his true calling in public service as a New York City Policeman and a New York City Fireman. Robert was married to Margaret Dunne in 1964 and is survived by Donald (son) Karen (daughter in law), Kelly (daughter in law), Cynthia (daughter in law) and eight grandchildren; Jenna, Nathan, Matthew, Kathleen, Timothy, Maggie, Gwyneth, and Kyle. Robert was predeceased by Margaret (wife-2009), Edward (son-2012) and Robert (son-2020).
Robert enjoyed working with his hands and especially liked all aspects of construction going on to build an entire wing onto his house.  Robert's other passion was boating, owning numerous boats at different times in his life from his early teens though his later years.
But above all Robert was a beloved husband and father who always put an emphasis on family and loved nothing more than spending time with them.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 24 at 12:00pm at Poughkeepsie Reformed Church, 70 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
