On June 28 th , 2021, Robert V. Helmeyer, 91, of the Town of Hadley, NY, passed away after a brief illness. Robert was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 24, 1930. He was the son of Martin and Josephine Helmeyer. He was predeceased in 2015 by his wife, Janet after 65 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Ann Tasselmyer and husband, John of Hadley, NY, and two sons, Harold Helmeyer and his wife, JoAnn of Stormville, NY and John Helmeyer and his wife, Kim of Milan, NY. Robert has 4 grandchildren, Robert Tasselmyer and wife, Alessandra of Galax, VA, Morgan Constable and husband, Joshua of Pleasant Valley, NY, Shannon DeVita and Vincent of Pensacola, FL and Timothy Helmeyer of Stormville, NY. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, Briana, Naima, Derick, Trent, and Blake. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Robert worked in the food service division of IBM in Poughkeepsie for 35 years. Upon his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively and wintered in Florida. In 1992, he moved from Poughkeepsie to Hadley, NY where he enjoyed many summers of fishing, hiking and boating on the Great Sacandaga Lake. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed watching westerns.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St. Pleasant Valley, NY 12569. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Cemetery on Salt Point Turnpike in Poughkeepsie, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert's name to a charity of your choice.
