Robert Tate
Burgess
Jun 26, 1945 — Jul 10, 2021
Millbrook
Robert Tate Burgess, 76, died on July 10, 2021 at his home in Millbrook, New York after a long struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Bob was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 26, 1945 to Alfred Arthur Burgess and Alberta Torrence Tate Burgess. He was raised in Manhasset, Long Island. A graduate of Loomis Academy and Syracuse University he earned an MBA at NYU. He worked for Bankers Trust Company for 30 years, 18 of them in his beloved London. Bob had many hobbies and interests. He was a lifelong car lover and Formula One racing fan. He loved music of all kinds and worked to the end of his life 'tweaking' his intricate sound system to perfection. A collector of modern watches, he pursued this interest throughout his illness. His many years of shooting sporting clays and gun collecting, as well as his membership at Mashomack Preserve, ended prematurely when he was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan Kerwin Burgess, daughters Thea and Kate and son-in-law Stu Mair, grandsons Malcolm and Vincent Mair, his sister Janet O'Brien and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob always loved Westhighland terriers and is survived by his beloved companion Sebastian.
There are no services but a celebration of his life will be arranged at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Hudson Valley Hospice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Funeral Home, Millbrook.
