Richard Thomas Long, Sr, field engineer and life-long resident of Poughkeepsie, NY lost his battle with dementia on July 25, 2025, at the age of 86. Richard was born on July 10, 1939, in Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janice Long; his son, Richard T. Long, Jr; his daughter-in-law, Lori Long; and his two grandchildren, Richard III and Sara. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Long; his sister, MaryJane Riley; and several nieces and nephews. Richard is pre-deceased by his father and mother, Bertin and Henrietta Long, his brother, Bertin Long and his sister, Nancy Napoleon. Before becoming the proudest grandfather,
Richard was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. Upon his graduation he became employed by the NCR Corporation and worked there for 29 years. After retirement, Richard became active in real estate, owning and maintaining many rental properties. He was also a life member of the Elks Club where he enjoyed many social gatherings with his family and friends. Richard also enjoyed going fishing with his son and family whenever he could. Richard was and will always be loved and deeply missed by his family.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 29 from 4-7 pm at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 30 at 11 am from the funeral home and interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made in Richard's memory to a favorite charity.
