Rafael A. Peterson, Jr. born February 12, 1964, and transitioned on January 13, 2022, at the age of 57.   He was a loving husband, father, foster parent, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, favorite son-in-law and a friend and mentor to many. He lived a life that was happy, joyous, and free and was forever grateful to those who showed him the way. He was happiest when helping others and impacted the lives of everyone he encountered. He was always grateful, thoughtful, and patient.  The most selfless man we've ever known. He lived a life without fear and was grateful for each moment he was graced with.  He had a way of making everyone feel special.

In his heart, he knew who was ultimately responsible for his purposeful life.

Rafi never gave up his dream of owning a business and at the age of 53, his dream came true with Savory Side Food Truck.  To cook and comfort others brought unbelievable joy to his life.  He was living a life beyond his wildest dreams.He always found a way to enjoy the journey and appreciate the little things. He never got caught up in the daily grind. He always focused on the moments not the destination.  He was so grateful for the relationships he built in the community. His legacy and love for creating food will continue to comfort all through his recipes left behind.

As a father, he was simply the best.  Father-daughter days, morning meditations, sporting events, family trips and long conversations filled with words of advice, love and encouragement were just some of the many aspects of his close-knit relationship with his daughters.  He always encouraged his daughters to be themselves, follow their dreams, and continue to go with "God's Flow".Rafi, the best brother ever and best friend. Loving, spiritual, supportive, funny, humble, and just an amazing person.

His mornings were a sacred part of his day. He spent them improving his connection with God. While he took care of his physical health, he enjoyed listening to uplifting music. He knew his spiritual condition was contingent on all these things among others. He knew without these he would not be the man he was.
Rafi's love for sports started as a child playing baseball, basketball, and football. It continued to grow when he began coaching his daughters and then eventually coaching local teams.  He loved playing, competing, watching, and talking sports.  If you wanted to talk sports, you had his ear.

Along with his love of sports, he loved the outdoors. Some of his favorite activities were camping, hiking, kayaking but most of all he loved being by the water. Being in and around water was when he felt the closest to God. He loved to travel and experience the world and his gratitude for it all never faltered.

The service to celebrate his life will be at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie NY 12603 on Saturday, January 22 from 11am to 3pm followed by food and fellowship at Exempt Fireman's Association, 200 Mansion Street, Poughkeepsie NY 12601 from 5pm to 11pm.  ALL ARE WELCOME.
