Nicholas Pozza of Pleasant Valley passed peacefully at home on January 18th, 2021 with his loving wife by his side. He was 83. Nick was born on August 28th, 1937 in Sharon, CT to Nicola Pozza, Sr and Margherita Galvagni Pozza. Nick attended Dover Plains Schools and joined the Air Force in 1954. He served in the Strategic Air Command for four years and was a proud Korean War Veteran. He married his wife Barbara in 1959 and they made their home in Pleasant Valley. Nick was very involved in his community and local organizations. He was a past President and subsequent Life Member of the Pleasant Valley Trout and Game Club; one of the original organizers of the annual "Huck Finn Days" (which still continue); a founder of the Pleasant Valley Men's Slow Pitch League; and an original member of the Pleasant Valley Advisory Committee. Nick worked for IBM Sales Office for almost 30 years, before retiring ( but not slowing down ) . He was also co-owner of Top All Pizza in the early 1960's.
Nick was not afraid to dive into the unknown, help solve a problem, or to make a contribution to improve the town he and his family called home. A perfect example of that would be the award-winning Falcons Junior Marching Band, that he was founder and President of. The legacy of pride, hard work and determination he left still lives on in the hearts of the alumni members, as well as many others whose lives he'd touched over the years. Nick also found time for his favorite hobbies: golf, hunting and fishing. He is the author of the book "Leader of the Band: The Story of a Four-time Cancer Survivor". Nick wore many hats during his life, but being a family man was his most important one.
Nick is survived by his devoted wife Barbara A. Lovelace Pozza; their son Mark ( Victoria ) Pozza; their daughter Karina Pozza; his sister Emma Pozza; three grandchildren Devin, Catalina, and Giovanna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
To the members of Pleasant Valley Rescue Squad - thank you - your dedication and care was exemplary in our time of need. Nick's family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks and deepest gratitude to the amazing staff of Hudson Valley Hospice - they brought peace and comfort to us all during his final days. The family will hold a memorial to celebrate Nick's life at their convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hudson Valley Hospice and the Pleasant Valley Rescue Squad.
