Mildred
Hinsch
Aug 3, 1930 — Dec 23, 2022
Pleasant Valley
Mildred Hinsch (92) of Pleasant Valley, NY died peacefully at home on Friday, December 23. "Millie" was born at home in Gallatin, NY on August 3, 1930 to Lester and Mary (Coons) Funk. She had one brother Lester Funk II, who predeceased her. Millie attended Pine Plains High School, where at the age of 15 she met the love of her life Kenneth Hinsch, whom she married in 1948. He predeceased her in 2008. Together they shared 60 years of marriage and raised three children: Dora Hage (Peter) of Pine Plains, NY; Cindy Young (Bob) of Pleasant Valley, NY; and Kenneth, Jr. (Cathy Kocsak) of Pleasant Valley, NY.
In addition to serving as Town Clerk for the Town of Pleasant Valley for 26 years, Millie and Ken ran Ken's TV Sales and Service from 1965-1980.
Millie was always active in her children's lives as a room mother, parent volunteer on field trips and a PTA member and president at Traver Road Elementary School. She served as Girl Scout Cookie Chairman and assisted with Brownies and Girl Scouts. She worked nights as a waitress for six years at the Country Tavern Restaurant (now Fireside Barbecue and Grill) in Salt Point. Millie was well known for her role as scorekeeper at husband Ken's softball games in leagues in Poughkeepsie and in the Lakeland, FL area where they wintered. If Ken was playing, Millie was there. She was also an active cheerleader for all her children and grandchildren. Over the years, she (and Ken) attended a myriad of their baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, field hockey and football games. Another of her passions was watching and rooting for her New York Yankees and following several teams in the NBA. Millie loved word games and looked forward to doing the daily JUMBLE, board games and playing cards.
In addition to her children, Millie is survived by her grandchildren: Sarah Young (Derrick Cussano) of Pleasant Valley, NY; Rob Young (Randy Harrison) of Lincoln Park, NJ; Melissa Johnson (Matthew) of Wappinger Falls, NY, Loren Hage Fisher (Wayne) of Garner, NC; Michael Hage (Kristin Woods) of Rhinebeck, NY; Kenneth Hinsch (Alisa) of Poughkeepsie, NY; David Hinsch (Brianna) of Pleasant Valley, NY and nine great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to Hudson Valley Hospice, especially Lauren and Maria and to My Angels Home Care, especially Alicia, Barbara, Julie, Claudine and Sherina.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen Funeral Home and will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Millie's name to Hudson Valley Hospice, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601, or Pleasant Valley Fire Co., Station 1, 1619 Main Street, Pleasant Valley, NY 12569.
