Matthew R. Perkins, 37, of Pleasant Valley, NY passed away on Monday June 10th, 2024 following a brief illness.  He was born in Poughkeepsie to his parents Jon and Jolene, who became his biggest champions. He is survived by his girlfriend Sarah Alassal, brother Jimmy Killian, his wife Jennifer, and their children Katie and Jake, his sister Kimberly Perkins, her partner David Koval, and their son Christopher. Surviving at home is his stepfather Donald Maffei.  Additional surviving family include his Aunts Chrisann (Ed) Gorman and Jody (James) Dalton, Uncle Ron Perkins, and their families, along with many cousins and extended family.

Matthew attended the New York School for the Deaf at Fanwood where he made many lifelong friendships. His circle of friends grew over the years while attending camps for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, at Camp Mark VII and Gallaudet University.  He graduated from Blind Brook High School before continuing his education at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

As a young child, Matthew was fiercely independent and headed out into the world with his bike and an adventurous spirit.  He was known throughout his neighborhood and could be found nearly everyday riding his bike and going off jumps at Crestwood Park.

Always inquisitive, Matthew enjoyed taking things apart to learn how they worked, sometimes even putting them back together.  Throughout high school, Matthew worked on computers and his bikes.  In college, Matthew developed a love of cars which he enjoyed sharing with friends.  He was working toward replacing the engine in his Audi.

Matthew's love of adventure grew as he traveled to visit friends from New York City to Arizona.  He loved the water from the time he was a baby and was making plans to go back to the ocean this summer.

Matthew is remembered by friends and family for his sense of humor. Always one to make you laugh with a joke, or just a look followed by his mischievous smile.  He will also be remembered for his kindness and for being a true friend.  He loved animals, especially his beloved cats Jazz and Georgie.

We would like to thank all of his friends that have shared kind words, memories, and pictures during this very difficult time.  He is loved dearly and missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 14 from 4-7pm at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 15 at 10am in St. Peter's Cemetery, 171 Salt Point Tpke., Poughkeepsie.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Matthew's memory to the Council on Addiction Prevention & Education of Dutchess County.
