Obituary

Mary Carole Tardio, 81, a resident of LaGrange, NY since 1974, passed away at home peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.  Born on March 6, 1941 in Flushing, NY, Mary was the daughter of William V. Singleton and Isabelle McCarthy. Mary was a 1955 graduate of St. Andrew Avellino Catholic Academy in Flushing, New York; a 1959 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Manhasset; and a graduate of St. Clare's School of Nursing, class of 1962. Her early nursing career included time as an ICU nurse, and after a pause to raise her children, continued from 1989-2003 as a school nurse in the Arlington Central School District.
Mary's gift was her ability to find joy in everything she did. She cherished every moment with her family and friends, especially time with her children, grandchildren, and step-grandchildren. Known throughout the community, Mary had a huge heart and was always ready to help others, host (or attend) a party, and share her countless happy and funny stories.
In her youth she loved to ice skate and learned to play the piano by ear; as an adult, her hobbies and interests included tennis, formal piano lessons, any type of dancing, and singing. She eagerly anticipated her family vacations to Cape Cod and the Jersey Shore, and her travel itinerary included trips to the Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Florida, Maine, Vermont, and cruises to Bermuda and the Bahamas.
Survivors include her son, John and his wife Fernanda of Rochelle Park, NJ, granddaughters Mikela and Isabella Tardio of Fleming, NJ and step-grandchildren Nicolas and Patty, a daughter Christine and her husband Mike Tierney and grandsons Sean Anthony and Dylan Michael of East Greenbush, NY, her son Michael William of LaGrange, many beloved nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends.  Mary was predeceased by her three brothers, Monsignor William V. Singleton, Robert W. Singleton and his wife Anne, and Vincent J. Singleton and his wife Patricia; a sister, Gloria J. Murphy and her husband Edward; and her nephews Douglas Singleton and David Murphy. Mary was also predeceased by her former spouse and close friend, Dr. Anthony R. Tardio.
During her life, Mary volunteered at many organizations including the Dutchess County Medical Auxiliary, the Town of LaGrange Youth Soccer League, the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Arlington High School Music Program, the Dutchess ARC, and the Heart Association.
