Martin J. Gyves of Millbrook, NY was, born in Maspeth, Queens, the oldest of four boys born to Martin J. Gyves and Marie F. (Keller) Gyves. He spent his childhood in Rego Park, Queens and attended Bishop Loughlin High School where he ran track and also played youth football for the Greenpoint Crusaders. He served in the Army in the 1960's prior to the Vietnam war as an MP stationed at the now deactivated Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, NY. After acquiring math and engineering credits at both Queens College and City College in New York, he moved to Poughkeepsie in 1965, and worked at IBM for 30 years. and continued his engineering studies at Marist College where he graduated in 1970. He remained a devoted supporter of Marist College and was a member of "Team '70", the 50th Reunion Planning Committee.

In 1973, he married Pauline C. Riley, whom he met at IBM and they celebrated their 48th Anniversary just weeks ago.  They enjoyed traveling and were blessed to go on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with a group from St. Stan's Parish in Pleasant Valley with Fr.Jay.

Marty was an avid sportsman, woodworker, and gardener. He volunteered for many years as a Master Gardener in the DC Cornell Coop Extension Program. He developed a wide circle of friends in the Dutchess County area, especially through membership in the Twin Lakes Sportsmen's Association. He enjoyed all outdoor activities and spent much time enjoying fishing, hunting, and camping throughout upstate New York. His recent trips included fishing for Chinook Salmon on Lake Ontario with charter boat trips from Pulaski, NY.  Martin also volunteered for many years with SeniorNet Poughkeepsie, an organization devoted to helping train seniors in the use of home computers-(Yr2000)!

Martin was especially devoted to his extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.  He strove to stay abreast of their school achievements and awards and seldom forgot a birthday or anniversary.  He worked hard to keep a family tradition of "Cousins Days" alive by arranging family reunions every few years, several hosted at his home in Millbrook. He was a loyal parishioner of St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception Church, in Millbrook.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Riley) Gyves and stepdaughter, Deborah Riley; 3 brothers William; Joseph, and Daniel, step-sister Barbara Repp; step-brother James Olivari, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was one of the nicest people one would ever hope to meet:  a true "gentle-man" and gentleman who will be missed by all.   Memorial donations in honor of Martin may be made to: faith-justice.org ; or St. Joseph's Church, Millbrook; or HV Hospice, Poughkeepsie; or any charity of your choice.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 2 ^nd , 2021 at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, NY from 5-8 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, December 3 ^rd , 2021 at St. Joseph's – Immaculate Conception Church in Millbrook, NY.
