Margaret Roth of Verbank, NY passed away peacefully at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on October 14, 2015 surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Born on June 6, 1938 in Wellingborough, England, she is the daughter of Arthur and Eva MacDonald. Margaret came to America on a cruise ship in 1957 and emigrated to Pleasant Valley where she raised her family. Margaret was a loving mother and grandmother who always hosted family gatherings. She was always there for her family and passed on many British traditions such as Christmas Crackers, Yorkshire Pudding, Trifle, and Toad in the Hole. And of course, her whole family knows 4 o'clock is tea time. Grandmar, as she was affectionately known, always enjoyed a good laugh with her family and a nice glass of wine. Margaret always loved a party but above all loved her family intensely. Margaret was extremely proud of becoming a US Citizen May 1, 1996. Over the last few years Margaret stayed active in the community, volunteering at the Union Vale Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, baking cakes for Meals on Wheels, participating in the Home Bureau, and was the President of Union Vale Senior's Club. Margaret is survived by daughters Linda Kistner and husband Bill, Donna Roth, and sons Daniel Roth and wife Eileen, and Kevin Roth. Grandchildren William, Robert and Andrea Kistner, Kristopher, Shane and Shawn Roth. She is also survived by ex-husband Roger Roth. Also by her sister Mary Higgins-Hackett, and many nephews and nieces in England. The family would like to thank the staff of Vassar Brothers Medical Center south circle 5. Visitation will be Monday, October 19th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley.
