Margaret Kara, age 98, died at Vassar Hospital, June 8, 2023, after a brief illness. A lifelong Poughkeepsie resident, Margaret was born February, 22, 1925 to Peter and Elizabeth Jankovitz. The middle of three children, she was predeceased by her brother Peter Jankovitz and sister Helen Jankovitz.
Margaret attended and graduated from Nativity School and Poughkeepsie High School, followed by the Wood-Puritan School.  In 1950 she married Joseph Kara, at the Church of the Nativity, who predeceased her in 2019 after 69 years of marriage.  Margaret worked in HR at IBM for several years before starting her family welcoming two daughters: Lynn (Lucas) and Lisa (McTamaney).  Lisa predeceased her in 1996. Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Richard Lucas and granddaughter Kara McTamaney as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Always devoted to her home and family she now joins those who have passed and leaves those remaining to mourn and miss her deeply. There are no calling hours and services will be privately held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, Poughkeepsie.
