Margaret A. Farmer, of Verbank, NY, 87, passed away August 21, 2026. She was the daughter of William and Eleanor Deforest born April 24, 1939. Margaret graduated Arlington High School. She was a member of Beekman Fire Company-Auxiliary and that is how she met her husband John ‘Jack’ Farmer, Jr. at a Millbrook Fire Company Carnival. She and Jack married on April 23, 1960 and made their home in Verbank and had 4 children. Margaret became a member of Union Vale Fire Company and became a Life Member. Margaret worked at Morona’s Market in Millbrook for many decades. While her kids were in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic School and they didn’t have a Gym Teacher, Margaret volunteered to teach gym. She bypassed the Red Tape and just showed up and did what had to be done; she taught gym class.Margaret was the second mother figure to all of the community’s kids. The Baby Boomers loved her. She kept things simple. She had a reputation for making the BEST Roast Beef dinner, mashed potatoes and a vegetable depending on the season. Also, she always offered to make her famous baked beans with her special secretive ingredients for picnics. For decades, she made homemade pizza, even the pizza dough, every Sunday. When her son Michael would say ‘It was edible!’, she knew it was delicious. Margaret and Jack became snowbirds enjoyed the heat and sun in their Boynton Beach, FL home for 30 years. She loved making her traditional comfort dinners for the senior community events.They were also very well known for their Verbank vegetable and flower gardens. Their tomatoes and onions were the size of softballs and the garden was lined with Zinnias and Cana Lillies.They also started a wood working business ‘J & M Crafts’. Jack would carve out the wooden yard figurines and Margaret painted them and put the final shellack on them. A lot of folks in the community still have them and display them in their yards.

She loved Flea Markets. Always looking for additions to her Waterford Christmas ornaments collection. She had 2 Christmas trees, one for traditional ornaments and a smaller one for her Waterford ornaments. She was also a Breast Cancer survivor. She never wanted her diagnosis or treatments to take attention away from the more important things in her life. Margaret is survived by sons John (Terri) and Michael and 2 grandchildren Kaelin Roth (Austin) and Andrew Datoush. And 2 great grandchildren Zachary and Vincent. She is also survived by siblings and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Jack Farmer, son William ‘Billy’ and a daughter Theresa.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31 from 4-7 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, September 1 at 10:30 am from St. Joseph’s Church, 15 North Ave., Millbrook. Interment will follow in Verbank Cemetery.
