Obituary

Lisa M. Mackey, 55 of Poughkeepsie, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023. Born in Poughkeepsie on May 20th, 1968, she was the daughter of Richard and Shirley Gregory Mackey. She was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1987. Lisa was employed as a Youth Division Aide at the Office of Children and Family Services in Highland for over 26 years.

Lisa was also a proud 30 year member of Women in the Wind, Black Rose Chapter, where she served as their Sargent at Arms for many years. Lisa loved riding her motorcycle and being a part of that community. She participated in many memorial rides over the years but one of her favorites was the year she rode down to Rolling Thunder in Washington D.C. in support of Vietnam Veterans. Lisa especially enjoyed going to Lake George for Americade each year. Over the years she participated in many functions to support the local motorcycle community, or other chapters of Women in the Wind. Lisa was known for always being there when her sisters needed a helping hand or a little backup.

In 2013, Lisa met the love of her life and they began their journey together. They went on many memorable trips to Lake George, NY, Fairview Beach, VA, and Summerville, SC. On August 27th, 2022, Lisa married her soul mate Cassie Thomas under the apple tree in their backyard. Lisa truly enjoyed having her friends and family over for a BBQ, and hosted many memorable events through the years, often cooking way too much food. She enjoyed planting flowers and working in the yard. Lisa was passionate about helping animals and she loved their rescue puppy Xena.

Lisa is survived by her wife, Cassie; her parents, Richard and Shirley Mackey; cousins, Jackie Adams, Sharon Roe, Judy O'Connor, Billy Mackey, Shirley Black, Brandon Polemeni and William Plass III; and her God daughter, Phyllis Black-Ruffell. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Margaret and Floyd Gregory; her paternal grandparents, Gladys and Berkley Mackey; her aunts Barbara Mackey and Linda Gregory; and cousin Dustin Riordan.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7th from 4 – 7 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Funeral services will take place at 11 am on Saturday, July 8th at the funeral home and interment will follow in Washington Hollow Cemetery, Salt Point. A celebration of life will follow at VFW Post 170, 1 Violet Ave, Poughkeepsie from 2-7 pm.    Memorial donations may be made in Lisa's memory to Hudson Valley Animal Rescue and Sanctuary (hvars.org)
