L. Eugene Breglia, Jr., 78 of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died at his residence on Friday, June 19, 2026.
A lifelong resident of Dutchess County , he was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 8, 1948. He was the son of the late Louis E. and Virginia Nepfel Breglia. He was the grandson of the late Dr. John E. and Amy MacIntyre Breglia and the late Preston and Mary Hynes Nepfel.
Mr. Breglia was a graduate of Roy C. Ketcham High School and received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science Degrees from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
He was employed as a fourth grade teacher for his entire teaching career at the Fishkill Plains Elementary School in the Wappingers Central School District for thirty-three years, retiring in 2002.
Mr. Breglia served for twenty-two years as Associate Organist at Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie. In retirement he spent many hours volunteering in the church office as well. Recently, he was a communicant at St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. He was a volunteer at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and a member of the Vassar Brothers Medical Center Foundation and worked part time in the IT Department. He was a life member of the Wappingers Congress of Retired Teachers, the New York State United Teachers, the American Federation of Teachers and the Dutchess County Retired Teachers Association.
His beloved cousins, who were like sisters to him, Eleanor Kelly O'Neill of Fayetteville, NC, predeceased him and Marilyn Kelly of Stormville, NY who survives; his Goddaughter, Carol Kelly Craugh and her husband Jeffrey T. Craugh, Kinnelon, NJ also survives him, in addition William J. (Godfather) and Annamarie G. Kelly of Walden, NY. He is survived by his closest and most devoted friend who was like a brother, Scott Wall of Hopewell Junction NY. Also surviving are his loving and loyal friends of many years, Lorraine Daley of Wappingers Falls, Kenneth St. Onge and Stephen and Joann Schwartz of Poughkeepsie. They all made him part of their families and he celebrated many holidays and events with them.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 25 from 2-5 pm at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 26 at 9:30 am from St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Rd., Poughkeepsie.
