Obituary

Kathleen Margaret Doherty, 35, of Astoria, Queens and Poughkeepsie, New York, died February 21, 2017 at Elmhurst Hospital, Queens, surrounded by her loving family and many devoted friends.

Born in Poughkeepsie on February 25, 1981, Kate was the daughter of John and Kathleen Doherty, Poughkeepsie. Kate attended Mass at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Manhattan. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes and received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Master of Public Administration at John Jay College of Criminal Justice In New York City. She was an Executive Legal Assistant at the firm of Ropes & Gray LLP, Manhattan and absolutely loved her job. In addition to her parents, Kate is survived by her brother & sister-in-law, Matthew J. and Jessica Doherty and her adoring nieces and nephew, Jade, Madeleine, Abiageal and Jackson as well as uncles, aunts and cousins: Thomas and Katie Doherty and cousins, Brigid Breen and son Jack, Meghan and Eric Gardner, Nora and Dave Duff and son Connor, Brendan and Katie Doherty; Daniel and Leotine Doherty; James and Patty Doherty and cousins Robert Santo, Michael Santo, Tracy Torres and Mary Cecilia Doherty; Mary Ann Hogan; Thomas and Kim Hogan and cousins Maggie and Benji Bahr and sons Jake and Bodhi and Emma Hogan.

Kate shared a special unbreakable bond of extraordinary friendship with a group of friends far too numerous to name but they each held a special place in her heart, especially Marisa Rinaldi and Jessica Lane-Howley.

We would like to thank all her loving and devoted friends who were able to visit, pray and spend time with Kate in her final hours, most of whom never left her bedside. We appreciate each and every one of her friends so very much and thank them for being the wonderful people they are. We would also like to thank the compassionate doctors, nurses and staff at Elmhust Hospital STICU.

Kate said becoming an aunt was her life's greatest blessing.   All who knew Kate know she lived and loved life to the fullest. She lit up every single room she ever walked into. She always made people feel special and was always genuinely excited to see you. Rarely seen without a warm smile, we know Kate has left an everlasting impression on all those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 2nd from 1-4pm and 6-9pm at Parmele, Auchmoody and Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 3rd at 11am, Church of the Holy Trinity, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests friends follow Kate's beautiful example and consider being an organ donor. Also, contributions in memory of Kate may be made to The Kate Doherty Memorial Scholarship for Criminal Justice at Marist College.
