Joyce M. Near, 88, a longtime resident of Pleasant Valley, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at The Pines in Poughkeepsie.
Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on June 23, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Irene Facina Hungerford. Joyce was a switchboard operator at Vassar Brothers Medical Center for 40 years and was known as "Joyce the Voice." She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley and a member of the Pleasant Valley Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary

She is survived by her children; Darlene Goodman and Danny, Sue and Dave Carao, Jayne Gibson, Charles Near and Eric and Gina Near; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and her sister Elaine and Jim MacBrien."
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Charles Near Jr.
She was very dedicated to her family and her friends and was a very caring soul to all she came in contact with.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 9:30 am – 11:00 am at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St, Pleasant Valley. Interment will follow in Nine Partners Cemetery, Millbrook. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Joyce's memory.
