Josephine "Jo" Andrews, longtime resident and former first lady of the Town of Pleasant Valley, New York, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Westchester Medical Center after a valiant and dignified battle with leukemia.

Born October 9, 1938, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Popavero.  A proud alum of Poughkeepsie High School Class of 1957 and White Plains Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1960, she served as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital (now MidHudson Regional Hospital) for over 35 years.  In retirement, she continued to volunteer at the hospital while nursing part time at the Culinary Institute of America Infirmary until just a few years ago.

On September 9, 1961, she married Clifford F. Andrews, Jr., former Supervisor of the Town of Pleasant Valley, who died in 2014. She is also predeceased by her sister, Rose M. Andrews.  She is survived by her daughter, Michele and husband George Gorey, son Paulist Father Eric Andrews, grandchildren, Erica and Michael Gorey, sisters, Anna Mae Tkazyik and Andrea Popavero, Brother-in-Laws, Thomas Andrews, Raymond Andrews and wife Laurel, several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Up to the moment of her death, she lived her life to the full in the company of family and friends.  Despite cancer, she was always more concerned about others than herself.   She loved fellowship and friendship with parishioners at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, her high school reunion group, fellow health care workers, tennis players, and so on.  A phenomenal cook and avid gardener, she is known for her outstanding pizza and for co-founding the Gretna Garden Club which recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary.  In the last few years, she was known to many on Facebook as "Mom Andrews."

In a very special way, Michele and Eric would like to commend Mom's niece and Goddaughter Andrea Tkazyik and her wife Donna Powell as well as best friend, Joan Knapp, husband Ken, and cousin, Jim Andrews for their faithful accompaniment of Mom, especially since Dad's passing.

Calling hours are Monday, January 29 from 4-8pm at the Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main Street, Pleasant Valley, New York.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 30 at 10:30am at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Pleasant Valley.  Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
