John Lucio Tumino, 90, of Nashua, NH, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024.  He was born in Tarrytown, NY, on December 13, 1933, to the late (Giuseppe) Joseph and (Giovanna) Jennie (Ferrera) Tumino.

At age 11, his family moved to Millbrook, NY.  He graduated from Millbrook High School in 1952, during which he played football and baseball, and shared his enjoyment of singing. His yearbook noted him as a future crooner.

After high school, John served in the U.S. Navy, and took part in Operation Deep Freeze, led by Admiral Byrd. Upon completion of his military service, John attended Lowell Institute of Technology, receiving his degree in Electrical Engineering.  Living in Lowell, he met and married Madeleine Malouin, and they had two children.  In 1974, they moved to Shirley, and opened a nursery school, the Wonderful World of Children,  still in operation today. He was fondly known as 'Big John.'

John was an active member of the local Lions and Rotary Clubs, and the churches he attended. He learned to ski with his children, and continued to ski into his late 50's. He enjoyed family vacations on Cape Cod, and holidays in Millbrook and Verbank with his family.  He also loved to travel to the Grand Cayman and Disney World with his family and especially cherished his visits to family in Sicily, where his father and grandparents were born.

John retired from Lockheed Martin in the late 80s. After his marriage ended, he lived in the Nashua area with his high school sweetheart, Dede Wiggins (d. 2007).  Until last year, John played golf, joined a bowling team, took swimming classes and was committed to weekly "Corn Hole" tournaments. He was often the winner!  He was a life-long student, always registered in a class at Rivier College, where he took computer and genealogy classes and was a proud contributor to a recent war-time documentary, sponsored by the Nashua Historical Society.

John made an annual drive to Florida, to visit his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Jen, and to Savannah, Georgia, to spend time with his sister, Gloria, and her husband, Chick, where he enjoyed playing golf with them. He flew with his daughter and grandchildren in 2023 to visit his son and his wife in the Pensacola area. John spent many holidays with his daughter's family and former wife, Madeleine, with whom he remained very good friends.

John is survived by his daughter, Gina (Tumino) Bellistri, his son, John Jay Tumino, and wife, Jen; his sister, Gloria Molella, and brother-in-law Chick; grandchildren, Sophia and Joseph Bellistri, and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his former wife, Madeleine Malouin , who passed in June, 2024.

There will be a Memorial Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Immaculate Conception Church, North Avenue, Millbrook, NY on Nov. 30 at 10 o'clock am, followed by burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
