John Michael Trunk, 75, passed away on April 13, 2026, at Putnam Hospital in Carmel, NY.

He was born on September 5, 1950, in New York, New York, to James Trunk and Irene Flannery. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972. He served as a helicopter mechanic with the 538th Company, US Army Europe, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam era.

He is survived by his loving children, John Trunk Jr. and Adrienne Fischer and his grandson, Brady Fischer. He is also survived by his brother, James "Jimmy" Trunk and his sister, Susanne "Suzie" Talbot, along with many caring nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Margaret "Peggy" Bertozzi, William "Billy" Trunk, Mary Ellen Sheridan and Irene Trunk.

He built his life's work as a plumbing and heating technician, helping keep homes warm, water running, and people in his community cared for.

An avid seafood lover, John's favorites included shrimp, clams, scallops, and lobster. He took great pride in his clam shucking abilities and rarely traveled anywhere without his well-worn clam knife, just in case he was needed on short notice.

John valued a playful, mischievous sense of humor, which he maintained until the very end. One of his favorite lines, often delivered at just the right—or wrong—time, was: "When God was giving out brains, you thought he said trains… and you got the caboose."

A memorial service will be held at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main Street, Pleasant Valley, New York on Saturday, April 25 from 10:00am to 12:00pm with Military Honors at 11am.
