John T. Phillips, 72, a long-time Hyde Park resident and formerly of the Bronx and Millbrook, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Born in NYC, John was the second of three children born to Theodore and Helen Romaniskey Phillips.

John graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine H.S. in the Bronx and later furthered his education in medical lab technology and later computer studies after serving honorably with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He worked for over 20 years at Blue Cross/Blue Shield in NYC. After he retired he became an entrepreneur. A Fork in the Road was a familiar sight to Marist students and Poughkeepsie residents as he served up his famous chili dogs and drinks. Following that enterprise, John was a sales specialist with the Poughkeepsie Journal.

He married Kathleen Rampino Phillips in 1985 and they traveled the world together, exploring Greece, Egypt, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Mexico,Venezuela and Medjugorje. They later welcomed three children into their life: Ted, Nick and Clare Phillips. John made an adventure of watching Jurassic Park with his kids, one of their fondest memories. He was a devoted father. On a mild summer's day, he could be found about the area metal-detecting. He was also into Hallmark and coin collecting, simple computer animations, drawing, scrimshaw and carving. With a little encouragement he was happy to entertain friends with his "war stories".

John leaves behind his wife Kathy and their three children; brother Ron Phillips and sister-in-law, Letty Phillips of North Carolina; his sister Teddy, and brothers-in-laws Chris Como of Millbrook and Steven Rampino of North Carolina, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of St. Peter's parish in Poughkeepsie.

Visiting hours will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24, at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, and on Tuesday, a Requiem Mass will be offered at 10 o'clock at St. Joseph's Church, Millbrook.
