John L. Kinney passed away on October 30th, 2021. He was 86 years old. Born in NY, NY on February 22nd, 1935 to Ruth Neuman Kinney and Francis M. Kinney, Sr., John was raised and lived in Queens, NY until becoming a Dutchess County resident in 1989.
John graduated Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in 1952 and then earned a degree in Horticulture from SUNY Farmingdale. John then moved on to become a Specialist Third Class (T) Light Weapons Infantryman in the Alpha Company, 60th Infantry, in the United States Army, following the Korean War, stationed in Germany. After leaving the military, he began a long career as a union milk man. Once moving to Dutchess County, he began his second career of grounds keeping at a private estate in Millbrook.
John is survived by his wife, Catherine McMahon Kinney, and six children. Rita (Greg) Viola, Ann Kinney, Christopher (Kathryn) Kinney, Kerri (Brian) Barrett, Vincent (Veronica) Kinney, and Katelyn Kinney. He is also survived by six grandchildren, his brother Dennis M. (Eileen) Kinney, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents Ruth Neuman Kinney and Francis M. Kinney, Sr.; his brother Francis M. Kinney Jr.; his son John L. Kinney, Jr.; and his former wife, Kathleen Sullivan Kinney (mother to John, Rita, Ann, and Christopher.)
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 4th, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, NY from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Friday, November 5th, 2021 at St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley, NY. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Millbrook, NY.
Please join us at 'Jason Patrick's on 44' in Poughkeepsie, NY immediately following burial for a celebration of John's life.
