We are saddened by the loss of John Andrew Kearins who passed peacefully at his home in Millbrook, NY on Friday, June 9, at the glorious age of 93 ½ years old. May his soul rest in God's right hand. We are so grateful to have had him for so long. He was born in County Sligo, Ireland, in 1929, the fourth child of 12 children, to Michael and Teresa Kearins.

John migrated to New York at the age of 17 with his sister Ann on St. Patrick's Day, 1947. Once settled with employment, he put himself through school and was proud to serve his country by joining the United States Army. In 1955, he married the love of his life, Joan A. Moose of Bernardsville, NJ. They went on to be happily married for 65 years and enjoyed their sons and large loving family.
John and Joan spent many years on 184th Street in the Bronx where they enjoyed the company of the Irish community and extended family before moving to Yorktown Heights in the early 1970s. John worked for Con Edison in Manhattan for over 41 years, where he made many close friends. John and Joan moved to Millbrook, NY in the mid 90s and met great neighbors, friends, and joined their treasured St. Joseph's Church. When not gardening or taking care of his yard, John was happy to volunteer for his son's theater company as an usher and as a set constructor for many years. He greatly enjoyed supporting children's experiences in musical theater.

Throughout his life, he celebrated his Irish heritage and frequently visited the Emerald Isle. He was a lover of Irish music and culture, reading, birdwatching, baseball, soccer, and American football. John could often be heard whistling happy tunes around the house.

As a devoted family man, caring father, doting PopPop, and proud Great-PopPop, he is survived by his loving sons and their spouses: John M. and Joan M., Ken and Patricia, Brian and Suzanne, Kevin and Anthony Lisa; his siblings Raymond (Carol), Thomas, Mickey (Julia), Leo (Nancy), Christie, Teresa & Rose; extended family Alice Kearins and Katie Kearins; his grandchildren and their spouses Brian S., Tim (Emily), Michael (Ashley), Colleen (Joseph), Reed and Cassidy; and six great-grandchildren Johanna, Henry, Jax, Zane, Michael and Daniel. He is also remembered with love by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, both in the US and Ireland. He is predeceased by his devoted wife, Joan, his grandson Steven, beloved siblings James, Angela, Ann, Anthony and in-laws and family members of the Kearins, Moose and McCarthy families. John and Joan were well looked after with the best of care by our kindhearted Dawn, and our family will always be eternally grateful for her loyalty and compassion.

He was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His happiness, wit, and personality made him so comforting to be around. He was our own lucky charm. We will carry his memory in our hearts forever.

Friends and family will celebrate the life of John on Tuesday, June 20, from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-9:00 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave, Millbrook, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 21, at 10:00am at St. Joseph's Church, 15 North Ave, Millbrook, NY and interment will follow immediately in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
