John Giammatteo, 78 of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Alife, Italy on January 24, 1938, he was the son of Nicolino and Giuseppina Sanniti Giammatteo.

John served his country with the US Army from 1962-1964 and the US Army Reserve from 1964-1968. On August 4, 1968 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Poughkeepsie, he married Linda Anable. Mrs. Giammatteo survives at home. He was employed at Schatz Federal Bearing in Poughkeepsie for many years until his recent retirement. He was a longtime member of the Italian Center, Poughkeepsie and participated in their Bocce League.

In addition to his wife Linda, John is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Giammatteo; his grandson, Joshua Giammatteo and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Filomena Divito, Henrietta Giammatteo and brother John Giammatteo.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 3 from 4 - 7:30 pm at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 pm from the funeral home. Interment will be in Gerald B. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville,NY.
