John (Bud) F. Freeman Jr., lifelong resident of Dutchess County, NY, passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2017.   He was 85.   John was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on February 28, 1932 to John F. Freeman and Jane Ireland (Dorney). He graduated from Arlington High School in 1950, and founded Feldweg and Freeman Woodworking with his friend and business partner Ed Feldweg. Together they built houses, stairs, and cabinets for over 40 years.

John married Jane Stott on December 17, 1955 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Pleasant Valley, NY. He served in the Army as an MP in 1956-57, was active in the Church, Rotary Club, and the Town Zoning board. He spearheaded a local film – The Wappinger Creek, Our Backyard Treasure. He was respected as a local businessman and church leader.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Jane S. Freeman, at home; son David Freeman and his wife Judi, of Poughkeepsie; daughter Susan Krieger and her husband, James, of Salisbury Mills; and five grandchildren: Chelsey, Tyler, Mackenzie, Jenny, and Katie.   He was predeceased by his sisters, Jane McCue and Barbara Rassiga.

Bud had a great love of the outdoors, and enjoyed a life of gardening, sailing, fishing, hiking, canoeing, and swimming. Once he retired, he stopped building stairs, and started building ship models of all sizes.   His greatest creation was a 10 foot long operable mini tugboat, which he named Bud's Toy. He could be seen putting along the Hudson River, and the waters of Lake George in his tugboat.   He enjoyed winters in Key West, and summers in Lake George, where he was a beloved member of the community.   Bud was an honest, hardworking, down to earth Christian man, who will be greatly missed.

There will be no visitation.   A graveside service will be held June 20th at 2:30 at St Paul's Episcopal Church, Pleasant Valley, New York. The family will host a reception to follow from 3:00 to 5:00 in St. Paul's Parish Hall. Please join us to celebrate Bud's life.   Donations in John's honor may be made to St. Paul's Church.
