VERBANK – John (Jack) E. Sawtelle Sr., 91, formerly a resident of Verbank, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 in Massachusetts after a long battle with Dementia.

Born on January 1, 1933, in Lubec, Maine, he was the son of Carroll Sawtelle and Ida Davis Sawtelle and one of 7 children.

On August 29, 1952, he married Gloria (Mae) Doble. who predeceased him in July, 2019.  John is also survived by his children; John Sawtelle Jr. of Cornwall Bridge, Connecticut, Kristi Domin and her husband Stanley of Pleasant Valley and Scott Sawtelle and his wife Diane of Hanson, Massachusetts; his 4 grandchildren, Sonia, Jessica, Ryan and Ashley; his 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

John retired in 1992 from Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. where he worked as a line clearance supervisor for more than 30 years.  He was an exceptional baseball player growing up and coached for many years in Millbrook and Verbank.  He loved watching his kids play sports and rarely ever missed a game and was one of the biggest Mets fan around.  In his spare time, John loved to hunt, cut wood and spend time with his family, whom he adored.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 29th from 4-6 pmat Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. A private burial service will be held at Verbank Cemetery on Monday, September 30th at 10am.
