John H. Dow, Jr. 98 of Poughkeepsie passed away on June 21, 2024 at home.  John was born September 24, 1925 in Poughkeepsie, NY and was the son of the late John and Ethel Dow.  John attended Arlington Schools and at 17 joined the US Navy to serve in WWII aboard the USS Iowa. Upon his discharge, John worked for over 40 years at Western Publishing Co. in Poughkeepsie, NY. Upon Western Publishing's closure he worked for Harris Graphics until his retirement.  On March 19, 1955 he married his beloved wife Josephine Garrison who predeceased him in 2020.

Although John was 98 years old, he was sharp as a tack and remembered everything.

John is survived by his three children.  Edward Dow of Pleasant Valley, Stephen Dow of Poughkeepsie, Natalie Conklin and his son-in-law Carl of Lagrange.  Also surviving are two grandsons, Justin (Jennifer) and Brandon (Hannah) Conklin and three great granddaughters, Sadie, Evelyn and Penelope Conklin.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents John was also predeceased by his sister Eleanor Denton.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 27 from 11am – 12 noon at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home,110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon from the funeral home. Interment will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
