Obituary

Joan Mary Cox of Troy, NY passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Joan was born on May 3, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY to George and Margaret (Cunningham) Colligan, the youngest of 7 children.  Upon earning her degree from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY, she served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1954. It was during this time at Sampson AFB in Geneva NY, Joan met her future husband, Edward Cox, Sr. Joan and Edward were married on January 16, 1954 at St. Athanasius Roman Catholic Church, her family parish.
Joan's first love was her family, and it was the source of her greatest joy.  To Joan, family meant more than just Edward and their five children. It included her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews as well as innumerable friends. All were welcome in her home. She was known for being a fun-loving hostess and created many lasting memories for all she entertained.
While living in Poughkeepsie, Joan was an active member of St Peter's Catholic Church, the Fairview Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Town of Hyde Park Republican Committee.
Joan is survived by her children, Mary Cincotta and her husband Tom, of Red Hook, NY; Noreen Cox, of Troy, NY; Edward Cox, Jr. and his wife Therese of Millbrook, NY; George Cox, of Troy, NY; and Dean Cox, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her grandchildren, Ryan Cox and wife, Meghan, Michael Cox; Chelsea Sack and husband, Josh; Katherine Cincotta and husband, Derek, Nicholas Cincotta; Shannon Lorant and husband, Carter, and Daniel Cox; and her great grandchildren, Avery Cox and Carson Cox, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Cox, Sr., parents, George and Margaret Colligan, mother-in-law, Nora Toomey, and brothers and sisters, Marie Carty, George Colligan, Edna Brennan, Anita Daly, Joseph Colligan and Vincent Colligan.
Calling hours will be from 3-7pm on Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Avenue, Millbrook, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at St. Joseph's Church, 15 North Avenue, Millbrook, NY followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, 171 Salt Point Tpke., Poughkeepsie, NY.
In lieu of flowers donations in Joan's memory can be made to the Special Olympics, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
