Obituary

Janet Ludlam passed away peacefully at her home in Clinton Corners, New York, with her family at her side on January 28, 2021, at the age of 96.

Janet was born on August 28, 1924, to her parents, Roland and Jean Armes in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she joined her twin brothers Jack and Bill, and sister Kay. As a child, she and her family spent their summers on Lake George at a family camp just north of Silver Bay. Lake George would become Janet's favorite place in the whole wide world. She was still swimming in the lake when she was in her early 90's.

After graduating from Wilson College, Janet attended Faith Biblical Seminary in Philadelphia. It was there that she met Jack Ludlam, a seminary student from California. Jack courted her during seminary, telling his friends that Janet was the prettiest girl in the class. He might have added that she was the only girl in his class.

Jack and Janet married on June 2, 1949, and then began their family, raising their five children, Roland, Ruth, John Jr, Lois and Nancy.

She served as a pastor's wife for forty-five years, assisting Jack in pastorates in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maine, Michigan and New York. One of the great highlights of their ministry was their time with Trans World Radio and their opportunity to serve as pastor to missionaries in Bonaire, Netherland Antilles, and Swaziland.

Janet was a strong, life-long, committed Christian. She prayed for her children every day. Her first love was the Bible. She continued to read the New Testament in the original Greek late into her life. She also conducted Bible studies and was a faithful member of Evangelical Free Church of Clinton Corners.

Her second love was Lake George. How she loved to sit in her cabin by the water or take a refreshing swim! Her August Lake George birthdays were a major event. For a number of years, the entire Ludlam family gathered in the cabin for Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings.

Janet is survived by her sister Katherine Holliday. She also leaves behind her children, Roland and Suzanne Ludlam, of Fairfax, Vermont, Ruth Marie Carlson, of Montreuil, France, John Paul Jr. and Alta Ludlam, of Chester, Vermont, Lois and Eric Meyer, of Clinton Corners, New York, and Nancy and Lorne Keery, of Kelowna, British Columbia. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ruth and Adam Laroche, Rachel and Douglas MacKenzie, Roland Ludlam Jr., Piers Carlson and Sera Lee, Patrick Carlson, Gilbert Carlson and Emily Smith, Julie and Edward Cyzewski, John and Molly Ludlam, Joel and Renee Ludlam, Sarah and Jamison Flora, Benjamin and Aubrey Meyer, Rebekah and Robert Rehberger, Emily Keery, Marie and Caleb Holden, Christine Keery, and Matthew Keery, as well as her great grandchildren: Joshua and Hannah Laroche, David and Amanda Laroche, Caleb Laroche, Isaiah Ludlam, Shakia Ludlam, Ian MacKenzie, Molly MacKenzie, Gabriel Carlson, Emmanuelle Carlson, Amel Carlson, Ethan Cyzewski, Brennan Cyzewski, Bethany Cyzewski, John Ludlam, Eliana Ludlam, James Ludlam, Luke Ludlam, James Ludlam, Caden Flora and Eliza Flora.

Janet was predeceased by her husband, John Paul Ludlam, her brother John G. Armes and his wife Myrtis Armes, her brother Willard Otis Armes and his wife Mary Ellen, and her brother-in-law Charles Holliday.

Janet's family would like to extend our appreciation to the caregivers of Graceful Home Care who so lovingly cared for Janet. The family also wants to thank Hospice of Dutchess County for their support at the time of Janet's passing.

Janet will be interred in Hague, New York beside her husband in a private service. A celebration of Janet's life will be announced when it is safe for people to gather.

Donations in Janet's memory can be made to Trans World Radio, P.O. Box 8700, Cary, NC 27512.
