James Aloysius Gallagher, a lifetime resident of Beacon and Wappingers Falls, died on Wednesday May 18, 2016.
Born in Beacon on May 3, 1929 to the late Neil and Mary Margaret McGrath Gallagher.
Jim was a proud Korean War veteran, serving his country in the US Army in Germany. He was the owner of Gallagher Shell Service Station, a popular gathering spot in the heart of Beacon for many years. He was a proud volunteer fireman with Beacon W.H Mase Hook and Ladder Co. and was a pioneer in Pop Warner Football in Beacon.
Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years Ruth Johnson, Children Linda McLaughlin and her husband Joe Manto, James and his wife Cynthia, Robert Gallagher and Karen Kreppein and her husband Robert and by his much loved grandchildren Brendan McLaughlin, Ryan and Erin Gallagher. He was one of 21 siblings and is survived by his sister Kathleen Krawiec, brothers John and Thomas and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday May 22, 2016 from 2-4pm at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 1028 Main Street, Fishkill. Burial will be on Monday at 9am at Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors.
