Helen M. Kolarik, 77, of Pleasant Valley, NY, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Hospital after complications from a recent illness.
Helen was born in Manhattan, NY on January 16, 1940. She was the daughter of the late John Meighan and Catherine Horst Meighan. She grew up in Rhinebeck, NY, and was a graduate of Red Hook High School. On June 3, 1967 at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie, Helen married Francis X. Kolarik. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together, this past summer.
Helen was previously employed at the NYS Dept of Transportation, and later in life, was a program coordinator for the Archdiocese of NY Substance Abuse Program. She was a long time member and volunteer at St. Stanislaus Church, Pleasant Valley. Helen was a CCD Teacher in her younger years, Eucharistic Minister, and in recent years, she would help prepare meals for the local Lunch Box.
In addition to her husband Frank, Helen is survived by her 2 children; Francis J. Kolarik and his wife Marcy, of Pleasant Valley; her daughter, Michele K. Hayes and her husband Jim, of Pleasant Valley; her 4 grandchildren, Chelsea Kolarik, Kristen Kolarik, Tristan Hayes and Nicole Hayes, all of Pleasant Valley, and her sister, Mary Meighan of Florida. She was predeceased by 3 sisters, Margaret Meighan of Syracuse, Ann Meighan, and Altha Meighan, both of Florida.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 12 from 4-7 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, September 13 at 10 am at St. Stanislaus Church, 1590 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Helen's memory to St. Stanislaus Church.
