Obituary

Greta A. Brown, 93, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away peacefully at Vassar Brothers Hospital on November 9th  with her loving Grandson and caretaker, Adrian by her side. Greta was born on April 25, 1931 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Elmira and Raymond Beneway. In 1952, she married Edward Brown in Poughkeepsie, together they built a life full of love and companionship. Ed "Nookie" Brown predeceased Greta in February 2010.
A true spitfire with a wild sense of humor, Greta was known for her crass and hilarious wit. She could always be counted on for a quick laugh, a cheeky remark and bold sense of humor.
Greta loved to spend time combing the beach for sharks' teeth in Venice, Florida. She frequently enjoyed the company of neighbors, friends, and family; especially visits with her nieces Cindy Lou and Greta (Bonnie). Often you could find Greta on her front porch, relaxing in the sun, enjoying a piece of fried fish from her nephew Chris' catch of the day. Greta enjoyed life on her own terms, raising hell into her golden years, taking car rides to visit friends in the old neighborhood of "Dogtown," often sneaking a late evening beer and cigarette, savoring the calm of a busy day.
Greta was predeceased by her husband, Ed, affectionately referred to as "Nookie," her nine avid hunter trapper brothers Roy, Howard, Raymond, Earl, Wallace, Lawrence, Chester, Wilbur, Donald, and three sisters Eleanor, Thelma, and Shirley. Greta is survived by her loving daughters Nancy Molt (Hank), Carol Giarrusso (Gregory), adoring grandchildren Adrian (Jessica), Kayla (Roger) all of whom shared a special bond with their Mom and Mema. Her great-grandchildren Bianca Marie Howley and Jasper Joel Lawlor held a very special place in Greta's heart. She was incredibly proud to be a significant part of their lives. The love and affection Greta gave her great-grandkids will continue to live on in their hearts for generations to come.
