Gertrude
Isaacson
Jan 18, 1932 — Oct 3, 2025
Poughkeepsie
Gertrude (Miller) Isaacson, 93, of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully at Vassar Brothers Hospital on Friday, October 3, 2025, after a short illness.
Born on January 18, 1932, in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry C. Miller and Mae Christmas. On May 28, 1955, she married the love of her life, Dean L. Isaacson, also of Poughkeepsie. They shared nearly 60 wonderful years together before his passing in 2014.
Gertrude is survived by her sons Henry (Dawn) and Robert Isaacson, both of Poughkeepsie; her daughter-in-law Christina Isaacson of Lafayette, IN; nephew Perry Hartswick (Michelle) of Millbrook, NY; niece Janet Wiser (Kevin) of Southbury, CT; grandchildren Jennifer Hernandez of TN, Daniel (Taylor) Isaacson of Schenectady, Dr. Erica Dunphy (Shaun) of Blythewood, SC, Lauren Isaacson of Lafayette, IN, and Dr. Victoria Isaacson of Poughkeepsie; as well as seven great-grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Mickey Isaacson, niece Deborah Hartswick, brothers Harry and William Miller, and sisters Alice Rogers and Margaret Hartswick.
Gertrude worked for many years with the Arlington Central School District as a bus driver and custodian, proudly serving her community until her retirement in 1994. She loved her home and took great pride in her yard and garden—especially in riding her "pony" mower around the property.
A devoted member of the Town of Poughkeepsie Senior Center, Gertrude enjoyed countless hours playing cards with friends, especially her dear friend Bernice. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, and later joined St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Pleasant Valley when St. Andrew's closed.
Above all, Gertrude will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She shared her warmth, humor, and countless stories of local history with all who knew her, leaving behind cherished memories and laughter that will echo through generations.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Pleasant Valley, NY, followed by interment at Verbank Cemetery, Verbank, NY.
Memorial donations may be made to Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue, Dover Plains, NY, a place where Gertrude loved to visit to spend time with the horses.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, Poughkeepsie
