Obituary

Frederick W. Albrecht, age 89 of Pleasant Valley, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Fred was born on May 10,1928 to Stephen and Grace Terhune Albrecht at Vassar Bros. Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He attended Arlington High School, Class of 1946.

Fred was one of the " boys " of Albrecht's Dairy Farm. He married his wife of 62 years Dolores (Deats) Albrecht on August 19, 1947. Mrs. Albrecht predeceased him in 2013.

Fred served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952-53 and was a proud member of the American Legion. He was employed as a Re-con Specialist for IBM for over 41 years. He also worked for over 50 years at Bob Smiths Auction Hall as well as running the voting machines for Dutchess County for over 40 years.

A cornerstone of the Pleasant Valley Fire Dept. for 71 years, Fred served as Assistant Chief and Fire Commissioner, as well as " SANTA " for many years of children's Christmas parties.

Always a helpful man, Fred was an Elder at Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church and later a Trustee at Netherwood Baptist Church. He also coached and umpired for the Pleasant Valley Baseball League for many years.

His two favorite things were to be on the " FARM " or down at the " FIREHOUSE. "

He is survived by his daughter Dawn Shook (Allen) of Ojai, California.; sons, Kevin Albrecht (Terri) of Pleasant Valley and Karl Albrecht (Roxanne) Red Hook; six grandchildren, Dylan Shook ( Anna ) Ojai, California, Danielle Albrecht, Benn Albrecht, David Albrecht, Teresa Albrecht, all of Pleasant Valley, Rhiana Fassino of Red Hook;  three great grandchildren, James Shook, Eleanor Shook, of Ojai, California and Lorelai Fassino Red Hook.

He is also survived by his brothers Robert Albrecht (Carol) Pleasant Valley, Stephen Albrecht (Jean) Pleasant Valley, his beloved sister-in-law, Vivian Cahill LaGrange; and many nieces, nephews and cousins and their children are all a part of the Albrecht family.

We will always remember his generous, kind, loving heart and smiling face. He will surely be missed by his family and so many friends.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 27 from 10 am – 12 noon at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm from Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church. Burial with military honors will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. At the conclusion there will be a gathering at the Pleasant Valley Firehouse.
