Florence "Flo" McDermott of Pleasant Valley, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters at home on March 18, 2025 at the age of "29+".
Born November 6, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York she was the daughter of the late Michael and Caroline (née Delia) Calvello. Flo married her love, Henry P McDermott on January 12,1957 who she met while working at Merrill Lynch in New York City.  Henry pre-deceased her on April 22, 2001.
Flo dedicated her life to being a wife, mother and homemaker to her family. She also was a foster mom to several children that she raised along with her own while also being a "mom" to other families, caring for children of close friends.
She had a strong Catholic faith and would often be seen walking to church on Sundays. She was fun-loving and adventurous traveling to many places with her daughters and grandchildren. Whether it was snorkeling at 78 years old in Mexico, rubbing elbows with the characters at Disney, standing at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, or singing "Take Me Home, Country Roads" in the Shenandoah River she did it all with vibrancy, energy and enthusiasm. Everyone who knew Flo loved her. She was known as "flopper or floppy" to many, earning the nickname after tripping on her flip-flops as she ran the bases at a backyard wiffle ball game at the age of 62. When God picked this person to be our mom, we hit the jackpot.
Flo is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara Oakes, Kathy and Jeff Hickman, and Kelly and Mike Kelsey, grandchildren Brandi and Mike Andriello, Ashley and Mike Crawford, Sean and Colleen Kelsey, and Lauren Kelsey. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Logan, Penelope and "baby girl" Andriello, Carter, Daxton and Rylee Crawford. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother Michael Calvello, Jr.
Visitation will be held at Allen Funeral Home,1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley, NY on Friday, March 28th from 4 to 7 PM. On Saturday, March 29th, at 10:00am a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Saint Stanislaus Church,1590 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Interment will follow at Friends Cemetery, 2433 Salt Point Turnpike, Clinton Corners, NY
