Ellen Agnes Sutcliffe, 83, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.

She was born in Rothes, Scotland, on July 6, 1933 to the late George and Ellen McWilliam. She emigrated to the United States when she was 19 and later became a citizen.

On November 26, 1955 she married Jay Sutcliffe. Mr. Sutcliffe predeceased her on May 10, 2002.

Mrs. Sutcliffe worked at the Overlook School for many years until her retirement. She was a devoted member of the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian church, where she served as Deacon. She belonged to the Dutchess County Scottish Society, the IBM Retirees Club and the Thistle Club. She also attended the Burns Supper for 50 years.

Ellen is survived by her two sons, Allen and his spouse Laura Sutcliffe of Hopewell Junction and Brian Sutcliffe of Chelsea, NY. She is also survived by her three loving grandchildren, Heather, Derek and Brandon Sutcliffe and her devoted former daughter in law Elizabeth Sutcliffe. She was predeceased by her five brothers and sisters.

Visitation for Ellen will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from 4 to 7 PM, at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley, NY 12569. Funeral services will be held 10 AM on Wednesday, at Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
